Starting a action packed week in Bali

October 26
5 days into Bali and it’s been hectic! Today is my first chance to catch my breath before the next stop.
On Monday I visited Leon Boey at Livingseas Asia - Livingseas Foundation in Padangbai and headed out onto their reef restoration site to see first-hand what he and his team have been working on.
WOW. 10,000m2 of reef restoration, so many challenges, what’s working, what isn’t, and most importantly, the observations and data that help shape what happens next.
Because reef restoration isn’t just about growing corals and putting them back in the ocean. It’s about understanding the environment, the people, the practical challenges and what will give a project the best chance of long-term success. Leon is living and breathing this 24/7, often with limited budgets.
What’s also impressive is the hub he’s created, bringing people from different nationalities together with one common goal, saving coral reefs.
The ability to try new things, learn from what works (and what doesn’t) and share ideas is so important in moving reef restoration forward.
We’re looking forward to working with Leon and his team going forward.
It was also great to spend more time with Sergei Nozdrenkov from Wildflow. We first met at ZSL a few years ago, and his work is genuinely groundbreaking. Seeing 3D renders of footage captured that same morning was mind-blowing. Some of the features are incredible. If you’re involved in reef restoration, check out his work and reach out to him.
More to share over the coming days, including the people I’m meeting, the projects I’m working on and some of the conversations that have really got me thinking.
